Pendle Athletics Club recently held their annual presentation evening at Nelson Cricket Club.

Certificates and trophies were presented by Tom Lancashire of Bolton United Harriers, who competed at the Beijing Olympics and the World, European and Commonwealth Games.

Leah Hillman was named Young Athlete of the Year, while also claiming the Athletes’ Athlete Trophy, Pendle Open Trophy, Mid Lancs League Trophy and female field Throws prize.

Other winners were: U11 Female Charlotte Hanson; U11 Male James Ashworth; Female Cross Country Ruby Schofield; Male Cross Country Kai Atkins; Female Fell Ruby Schofield; Male Fell Thomas Marchant; U13 Female Sprint Ella Atkins; U13 Male Sprint Jamie Oldcorn; U13 Female Middle Distance Ruby Schofield; U13 Male Middle Distance Morgan Webster; U13 Female Field Alex Baker; Female Sprint Katy Lord; Male Sprint Joe Lonsdale; Female Hurdles Ruby Schofield; Male Hurdles Gregan Baker ; Female Middle Distance Meisha Watson; Male Middle Distance James Marchant; Male Field jumps James Blackburn; Female Field throws Leah Hillman; Male Field throws Spencer Phelan; Female Endeavour Kate Pritchard; Male Endeavour Joshua Ingham; Mid Lancs League Trophy female Leah Hillman; Mid Lancs League Trophy male James Blackburn and Joe Lonsdale; Pendle Open Trophy Leah Hillman; Athletes’ Athlete Trophy Leah Hillman; Young Athlete of the Year Leah Hillman.

Alex Baker, Zoe Kidney, Hillman, Joe Lonsdale and James Blackburn collected special trophies for breaking club records this year.

Lonsdale (100, 200,300m), James Marchant (1,500m), Matthew Barnes (,3000m), Blackburn (triple jump), Hillman (javelin, discus, shot, hammer), Kidney (javelin) and Baker (javelin, shot, discus) all finished the season in the top 10 in the North West.

Baker was 15th in the shot and 19th in the discus in the UK, with Hillman fifth in the javelin.

Lancashire Championship titles were won by Matthew Barnes (3,000m), Daemon Metcalfe (long jump), Blackburn (long jump, triple jump), Baker (hammer), Hillman (javelin, discus, hammer, shot), with Kai Atkins, Tim Barnes, Gregan Baker, Spencer Phelan, Joe Lonsdale, Luke Thompson, James Marchant and Ruby Schofield also collecting Lancashire Championship medals.

Hillman (javelin) and Barnes (3,000m) are Lancashire Schools’ champions with Lonsdale, James Marchant, Metcalfe and Neng Wildman also medalling.

At the Northern Athletics Championships, Hillman won the javelin, and Lonsdale collected silver in the 100m.

Atkins, Phelan,Lonsdale, Barnes, Marchant, Matthew Thompson, Metcalfe, Baker and Hillman also represented Lancashire AA, while Lonsdale, Hillman and Baker represented Lancashire at the English Schools’ finals.

At cross country, Atkins, Barnes, Thompson, James and Thomas Marchant, Tiarnan Crorken and Matthew Dutton represented the county, and Atkins, Barnes, and James and Thomas Marchant also represented Lancashire Schools.
