Pendle Athletic Club recently held their Annual Presentation Evening at Nelson Cricket Club.
Certificates and trophies were presented by past chair Paul Wilson.
The Young Athlete of the Year Trophy was renamed the Sheila Markendale Young Athlete of the Year, in memory of Sheila, who died earlier this year. Sheila was an integral member of the club and was involved in many different roles, over many years.
She also did a tremendous amount of work for Pendle and Lancashire Schools’ athletes and schools’ competition.

Alex Baker (javelin, shot), Leah Hillman(javelin), Benjamin McParland (javelin), Joe Lonsdale (60m, 100m), Daemon Metcalfe (high jump) and Alan Plumb (hammer) collected special trophies for breaking club records this year.
Benjamin (javelin), Spencer Phelan (javelin), Joe (60m, 100m, 200m), Tiarnan Crorken (800m,1,500m), Matthew Barnes (5,000m), James Marchant (800m), Alan (shot), Natrika Wildman (long jump), Leah (javelin, discus, shot, hammer), Zoe Kidney (javelin), Alex (javelin, shot), all finished in the North West top 10.
In the UK National Rankings, Benjamin was ranked eighth in the javelin and Leah was seventh, also in javelin.
At the Lancashire AA Track and Field Championships, titles were won by Joe (100m,200m), Gregan Baker (1,500m s/c, high jump, triple jump), Daemon (high jump), Tiarnan(800m, 1,500m), Alan (hammer), Alex (shot, Championship Best Performance), Leah (shot, discus) with Spencer, Matthew, James and Joshua Ingham also collecting medals.
The Lancashire Schools’ Champs and North Yorkshire Schools’ Championships brought medals for Morgan, Spencer, Joe, Gregan, Matthew, Tiarnan, James, Alex, Zoe, Leah and Natrika, with Joe, James, Alex, Zoe and Leah taking County titles.
Gregan, Joe and Alex were selected to represent Lancashire AA, Gregan collecting a team bronze in Combined Events, and Tiarnan, Joe, Leah and Alex were selected to represent Lancashire at the English Schools’ Championships, where Leah took silver in javelin and Joe bronze in the 200m.
The senior athletes’ were also promoted to Division 2 in the Northern Track and Field League.
At the Lancashire Cross Country Champs. Kai Atkins won silver, and Matthew Barnes bronze. The U17 Men’s team, Matthew, Thomas Marchant and Tiarnan Crorken were Lancashire champions. The U20 Men’s team, James Marchant, Joshua Ingham and Callum Ross, took bronze.
The Lancashire Schools’ Cross Country Championships, brought bronze medal success for Isabel Hartley, Alex Baker, Ella Atkins and Bethany Ashworth. Matthew Barnes is Senior Boys’ champion and Tiarnan took bronze.
In the Mid Lancs. Cross Country League, in the Under 15 Boys’ Kai finished first overall and the U15 Boys’ team, Kai, Morgan, Tim, Harry Nelson and Harry Smith, finished second. In the Under 17 Men’s age group, Matthew Barnes finished first overall, and Thomas Marchant third, and the U17 Men’s team, Matthew, Thomas, Tiarnan, Matthew Thompson, Luke, Jordan and Emerson were overall Mid Lancs champions.
