Swimmers shine in Manchester

Four girls from Colne ASC recently competed in the Manchester Summer Meet 2016 at the Manchester Aquatics Centre.

Charlotte Leigh (12) was fourth in the 100m Breaststroke, fifth in the 50m Breaststroke, sixth in the 100m Butterfly, ninth in the 50m Butterfly, 11th in the 200m Individual Medley and 21st in the 50m Freestyle.

Saskia Daly (11) finished fifth in the 50m Freestyle, ninth in the 100m Freestyle, 23rd in the 50m Butterfly, 24th in the 50m Breaststroke and 31st in the 50m Backstroke.

Mia Dodman (12) was 10th in the 100m Freestyle, 11th in the 50m Butterfly, 13th in the 100m Backstroke, 16th in the 50m Backstroke, 20th in the 50m Freestyle and 21st in the 50m Breaststroke.

Rachel Leigh (14) finished fifth in the 100m Breaststroke, seventh in the 200m Individual Medley, eighth in the 50m Breaststroke, ninth in the 100m Backstroke and 13th in the 100m Freestyle.

Meanwhile a few miles further south, two members of the Colne ASC Masters team took part in the Cheshire County Masters Championships at the Grand Central Pools in Stockport.

Philip Croxall, competing in the 45 to 49 years age group, won the 400m Freestyle, was second in the 50m Breaststroke, third in the 50m Freestyle, fourth in the 50m Butterfly and fifth in the 50m Backstroke.

Stephen Tyler, in the 50 to 54 years age group, was second in the 400m Freestyle and 50m Breaststroke events.

Last Monday, 11th July, the Colne ASC team travelled to Darwen in the North East Lancs Friendly League.

Colne won 33 of the 40 races to win by 73 points to 41.

Colne’s next fixture is on Monday, 19th September at Todmorden.
