The big guns come out to play at Nelson Golf Club!

Nelson Golf Club held their annual Malcom Higgins fourball, and John Connelly fourball qualifier on Saturday.

All the big guns were out, with Nick Uttley and Steve Duerden winning with a big score of 46 points.

Second were seniors captain Michael Hedge and Phil Harward with 45 points, and third were John Eastwood and Chris C. Anderson with 44 points on a card play-off.

The top 16 qualifiers now go on to play in the new John Connelly matchplay knockouts.

On Thursday, 34 ladies from Nelson participated in a Foursomes Stableford.

The competition was won on a card play-off by Lynn Hepworth and Marion Wilkinson with 33 points from Linda Smith and Anne Kendra. Janet Kelly and Christine Fletcher were third with 32.

Four ladies also took part in a nine-hole Medal competition won by Anne Green.

At Colne Golf Club, the Harry Hartley Fourball on Saturday was won by Dean Foxcroft and Guy Bretherton with 42 points from Jack Mansfield and Ryan Proctor, also on 42, and Howard and James Lonsdale with 39.

Sue Catlow, Pat McIlroy, Freda Lester and Stella Kitson won the Colne Ladies’ 4-Person Team event with 85 points, one ahead of former lady captain Beverley Welleck, Anne Black, Cheryl Barnes and Irene Londsale.

Marsden Park competed for their first Medal with Jason Whittaker’s 86-12-74 winning the men’s 0-12 category on a card play-off from Russell Binns’ 93-9-74.

Craig Watson took best gross and won the 13-18 category (83-18-65), with Brian Riley (69 nett) runner-up. Miles Uttley’s 84-19-65 won the 19-28 category, ahead of David Beckett’s 90-19-68.

Julie Alderson’s 96-24-72 won the Ladies’ medal and Jake Proctor’s 87-18-69 won the Junior Prize.

Ghyll held their 4-man team scramble on Sunday, and it was won on a card play-off by Steven Greenwood, David Sedman, Steven Wilkinson and Sheldon Pickles with a score of 57.5.

Second was the team of Craig Lemon, Stuart Airdrie, Ian James and Shaun Lemon.
