Ghyll Golf Club completed their final fixture of the Sunday Winter League.
On a wet and blustery day, Ian James and Sean Lemon gained the two points required to become Winter League champions.
Sixteen teams competed throughout the winter season and the team of Stewart Airdrie, Andrew Foulger, Ian James, Sean Lemon and Craig Lemon won the league with 42 points, one more than Tony Hartley, Iain Clarkson, Sheldon Pickles, Howard Thompson and Stephen Greewood.
In third place after a play-off were Carl Hillary, Andy Gibb, John Schofield and Mick Greenwood with 40 points.
l Nelson Ladies held an 18-hole Stableford on Thursday, with teams of four ladies playing in pairs.
Due to adverse weather conditions, only 16 Ladies competed the course, with Janet Kelly and Linda Lee winning with 35 points.
Nelson’s new lady captain Jean Walker has turned recruiting sergeant in a bid to boost the number of lady members at the club.
On Wednesday, April 22nd, from 1-30 p.m., Jean and her fellow members are to host an open afternoon, which will include a tour of the club and its facilities, including a free lesson with club professional, Simon Eaton, followed by refreshments.
Explained Jean: ”Golf is a great way to keep fit and to make new friends, but it is often difficult for a non-golfer to gain an introduction to the sport. The Ladies’ section at Nelson Golf Club wish to make it easy for anyone considering golf to come along to enjoy the friendly atmosphere at the club without that awful feeling of being a stranger.”
The invitation is open to both individuals and groups, but to cater for the correct numbers it is necessary to book a place by calling the club on 611834 and choosing option 2. Alternatively contact the lady captain on 614224.
