NELSON seconds suffered their first loss of the season on Saturday against Ramsbottom in the Ramsbottom Cup.

But they made amends on Sunday to maintain their unbeaten league record with a revenge victory against the same opponents.

On Saturday, Nelson bowled Ramsbottom out for 155, as Elliot Bradley took 3-41.

But despite Chris Willan’s (pictured) 58, the locals fell short as they were dismissed for 124.

They produced the right response the following day, however.

Ramsbottom were restricted to 185-9 as Colin Pemberton and Tariq Hussain took three wickets each.

The rain helped Nelson along, giving them a reduced target to aim for, and they duly reached 133-4 off 30 overs to take 10 points.

James Lickess hit 40, while Willan was again in form with the bat with an unbeaten 28.

• IN the Craven and District Cricket League, both Barrowford teams had a return to winning ways over the weekend.

The first team successfully chased 169 at home to fellow First Division newcomers Thornton.

Freddy Bailey returned the best bowling figures for Barrowford with 3-26.

Ajmal Choudrhy scored 34 and Matthew Clark 30 not out as the home side won with four overs to spare.

Meanwhile, the second team were victorious away at Riddlesden in a low-scoring match.

The visitors batted first and set 135 to win on a tricky wicket.

It proved more than enough as the home team were bowled out for 101.

The second team also progressed to the Cowling Cup quarter-final without entering the field of play as Cowling conceded the match.
