Barnoldswick didn’t get off to an ideal start as they lost by six wickets at Cherry Tree on Saturday.
Skipper Jonathan Beech lost the toss and Barlick were inserted at Preston Old Road, and were all out for 153, which the hosts knocked off with four down.
Beech said: “It wasn’t the start we wanted, we would have bowled and had a look at the wicket, which was pretty green. The pro (Chalana de Silva) hadn’t batted on a UK track before and we were 45-4.
“Scott Howarth-Hynes (26) steadied the ship and I joined him with 20, Sean Lemon made 27 and Josh Butler 24 not out, and we crawled to 153.
“I would have liked another 20 or 30 to give us something to bowl at.”
Opener Mark Hadfield then hit 80 not out to anchor the reply, and Beech admitted: “We dropped him two or three times early on, so it was our own fault really. It was one of those days.
“But the pro got 3-51 and looks a good bowler.”
Tomorrow, Barnoldswick start their Ramsbottom Cup campaign with a home clash with Baxenden.
