BARROWFORD’S first team travelled to Thornton and secured a third successive victory

Despite losing the toss on a glorious afternoon, Barrowford’s bowlers made quick inroads as Thornton failed to take advantage of the conditions.

Matthew Clark (4-42) and Chris Platt (2-29) shared the new ball and took wickets at regular intervals. Jahangir Babar bowled economically without reward (0-31) whilst Ajmal Choudhry mopped up the tail (4-11). James Cowgill top scored for the home side with 33 as Thornton were dismissed for 122 in 40 overs.

Barrowford started quickly in response and raced to victory in only 20.3 overs. Nabeel Ahmed was unlucky to be dismissed after a superb innings of 68. He was supported well by Liam Roberts (19) and Nick Burton (11 not out). Afraz Ali finished the innings with a couple of big blows with a quick fire 16 not out in only five balls.

The victory leaves Barrowford sitting nicely in second place in the Craven League First Division in advance of the trip to league leaders Haworth Road tomorrow.

The second team experienced a disappointing weekend as they lost in the league for the first time this season and were also knocked out of the Cowling Cup on Sunday.

Barrowford hosted Chatburn at the Bulholme oval, the visitors won the toss and set a competitive total of 192 batting first. Nigel Jones (3-51) was the pick of the bowlers for the home side. In response Barrowford lost wickets too regularly and were all out for only 101. Tony Stafford top scored with 21.

The following day Barrowford were at home again as they hosted Embsay in the Cowling Cup. On another scorching day the home side again lost the toss and were bowling first. Lloyd Davis batted superbly for the visitors, making 79 of the total 206. Jonathon Ormerod took his first wickets of the season finishing with (4-14).

The home side were always in with a chance but fell 28 runs short as no batsman made the most of a promising start, with six were dismissed in the 20s. The seconds will be hoping to return to winning ways tomorrow as they host Haworth Road.

Barrowford would like to thank Tandoori Nights, Colne for sponsoring the match ball in both homes games last weekend.
