This year’s European Capital for Culture is the charming and historic city of Mons in Western Belgium.
And it certainly ticks the right boxes, with four UNESCO listed treasures, with another four just a short drive away.
The traveller can wander the cobbled streets, visit all the locvely museums and galleries or join in the riotous Ducasse Festival, where St George slays the dragon.
The guide by Antony Mason is nice and slim so it fits in your pocket and has all the information you need to visit this lovely spot and with extra activities to mark Word War 1 planned for 2015, now is the time to visit.
